ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Iditarod musher Alan Eischens scratched out of Iditarod 2018 Wednesday morning.

A release from race officials says Eischens injured his arm, and that he made the decision to scratch because the injury would hamper his ability to care for the 14 dogs remaining in his team, "Which is his No. 1 priority."

Eischen made the decision at Koyuk at 11:22 a.m. He checked in to the checkpoint at 8:45 Wednesday night. He was in 49th place at the time.
