Fairbanks man appears for status update on fatal police shooting trial

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Anthony Jenkins-Alexie, the man accused of killing a police officer in 2016, attended a hearing in Fairbanks Superior Court on Monday to discuss the status of his trial.

29-year-old Jenkins-Alexie is charged with murder, assault, tampering with physical evidence and a miscellaneous weapons charge.

According to the indictment, on October 16th, Jenkins-Alexie allegedly shot Fairbanks Police Sergeant Allen Brandt.

Brandt died of complications from gun-shot wound surgery on October 28th.

The prosecution told the court they are ready to proceed with the trial while the defense said they are still in the investigation stages and have many more motions to file.

The murder trial is scheduled for October, but the defense plans to ask for a later date.
