FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTUU) - A Fairbanks man pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to the crime of sexually abusing a toddler. Previous reports from the Alaska State Troopers say that the man admitted the abuse to the toddler's mother.

Damon Brooks, 23, appeared in a superior court arraignment for felony charges of first and second degree sexual abuse of a minor. The complaint initially reached the Fairbanks Police Department in January of this year, when the toddler's mother contacted them.

According to reports, the abuse allegedly took place in 2016, when the child was just two years old. According to the criminal complaint, the abuse occurred inside Brooks' home. In a report with AST, the child's mother said Brooks admitted to abusing the child.

Brooks' next court date is set for later this month.
