Anchorage family asks for answers in shooting that left daughter on life support

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - A family continues to search for answers, more than two weeks after they say their teenage daughter was shot in the head, while on a party bus celebrating a birthday with her friends.

Loved ones gathered for a vigil Sunday, in order to voice concerns about violence in Anchorage and pray for 19-year-old Juanita Lolesio.

Erica Lolesio, Juanita's mother, says her daughter has a brain injury from the gun shot and is on life support.

Family said the 19-year-old was shot the day before New Years Eve, and they are still not sure who did it or why it happened.

The Anchorage Police Department says several people witnessed the crime.

Reverend Marcus Sanders says it will take a community effort to address crime concerns.

"When it starts to affect our children, we as parents, we as a community – we have to stand up," said Reverend Sanders. "I can't stress it enough. We have to stand up. We have to stand up and take out streets back."

The family is asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact APD or crime stoppers.
