HOUSTON, Alaska (KTUU) - A fire Saturday morning off the Parks Highway has destroyed a family's home and left a dog dead; a man was treated on scene for minor burns. The American Red Cross of Alaska responded providing vouchers for clothing, food and formula for the family's baby.

Christian Hartley, the city of Houston's Fire Chief, says they received a call around 11 a.m. for a burning house on Marginal Access Rd. Firefighters with the Houston Fire Department, Willow Fire Department and West Lakes Fire Department all responded to find the house fully involved. Hartley said between 30 and 40 firefighters were on scene fighting the fire for three hours before it was fully-extinguished.

The people who lived in the house were renting, according to Hartley. He says they were able to get out of the property with three of their pets but one didn't survive. The American Red Cross of Alaska responded to assist the family.
