ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Iditarod musher Marcelle Fressineau, of Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada, scratched out of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race Thursday afternoon.
Fressineau had left Shaktoolik at 10:47 a.m. bound for Shaktoolik, but opted to return to the checkpoint and scratch. The reason Iditarod officials gave was that it was "in the best interest of herself and her race team."
Fressineau had 12 dogs in her team when she made the decision. She was in 55th place out of 57 mushers at the time she made the decision.
This was Fressineau's third Iditarod. She was the last musher of 49 to finish in 2014 for the Red Lantern award, adn she finished in 62nd place in 2015.
Fressineau is the 11th musher to scratch from Iditarod 2018.
