ANCHORAGE (KTUU) On Tuesday, Nov. 22, the telecommunications company, General Communication Inc. (GCI), experienced an outage that began at 5:22 a.m. Nearly four hours later, GCI reports indicate that all services were restored by 9:17 a.m.
David Morris, of GCI, says that the outage was due to a bad card, which serves as “the brains of the network.” Upon switching out the card, the system took time to reboot, he says.
While the company’s Facebook page states that the outage is a “statewide issue,” Morris says that the outage was intermittent. It primarily affected 3G services along the road system, and to some degree it affected users’ internet into the home, he says.
“We will have a lot better visibility into [the impact] once we give a postmortem on it,” says Morris.
