Girdwood figure skater takes 2nd overall in Canadian Nationals

Vancouver, B.C. (KTUU) Keegan Messing had to have two strong programs to have a shot at making the Canadian Olympic figure skating team. Messing, who lives in Girdwood, holds dual citizenship in the U.S. and Canada.

Messing did just that, taking second place overall after completing a strong skate during the men's free skate program on Saturday.

Messing earned a score of 173.60 in the free skate, bringing his total to 259.25 and catapulting him into second place.

No word yet on if he's officially been named to the team, but Messing told KTUU he needed to have two strong programs in order to have a shot at making the Canadian team.
