ANCHORAGE (KTUU)- Racing through checkpoints and learning about mushing, young Alaskans experience IditaZoo.
Stephanie Hartman, Education Director for the Alaska Zoo said the day gives kids an up close and personal experience with mushing equipment and sled dogs.
"Its a big part of Alaska so not only is it embedded in tradition but it is a great way to get Alaskans outside and doing things that Alaskans like to do," said Hartman.
Musher Eddie Duque with Maranatha Kennels shared advice to some of the participants.
"I think the biggest lesson is to over come obstacles when you are racing, when you are out on the dog lot taking care of your dogs and learning responsibility," he said.
