ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Four-time Iditarod champion Martin Buser was the 28th musher to cross under the burled arch in Nome Friday morning, which means all three former champions in this race have now finished.

Buser, 60, told Channel 2 in Unalakleet that he had intended to be "ultra-competitive" in the 2018 race, but that he was trying to enjoy being further back in the race. "Stepping off that pedestal is hard," though, he told Channel 2. Buser won his first Iditarod in 1992.

As of 5:00 p.m. Friday, 41 mushers had finished the Last Great Race, with 11 still on the trail. Rookie Jason Stewart is last on the trail, leaving Elim four minutes behind Magnus Kaltenborn, at 10:42 a.m. Friday.

Earlier in the day, Scott Janssen and Jim Lanier were helped off the trail, and the two scratched. Read more about that incident here.
