OPHIR, Alaska (KTUU) - Iditarod XLVI is becoming defined by its warm weather and soft deep snow. Mushers are arriving at checkpoints across the trail speaking about the hard slogs and tough conditions driving their dog teams.

Four-time champion Jeff King has innovated a solution: extra-wide runners that makes him feel like he's riding a hovercraft.

King has a well-known history of innovation throughout his decades on the trail, from designing sit-down sleds to inventing new cookers.
