UNALAKLEET, Alaska (KTUU) - An Iditarod musher’s sled dog collapsed and died shortly before his team arrived at the Unalakleet checkpoint Wednesday morning.

Shilling, a 3-year-old male dog on the team of rookie musher Roger Lee, died about 10 miles before the checkpoint, according to a statement by the Iditarod Trail Committee.
