ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) Members of the community gathered for a fundraiser in remembrance of Leroy Lawrence Saturday.

The teenager died Tuesday after being gunned down April 7th, according to police.

Money raised at the car wash will go to Lawrence's family to help cover his funeral and medical expenses, organizers said.

Lawrence was a member of the boys and girls club in Mountain view and was an active basketball player.

His older sister Ashanti Cypress said the death of the teen was something her family couldn't have prepared for.

"He was our baby in a sense," Cypress said." he was our boy, out of three girls he was the only one. He shined a light in a all of us. He kept us smiling and laughing."

Cypress said Lawrence touched the lives of many people, was well loved and made a great impression on anyone he met.

A basketball tournament will be held Sunday April 16th at the Mountain View Boys and Girls club.

Those who knew him say Lawrence was happiest while playing basketball.
