ANCHORAGE (KTUU) A cold Friday night in downtown Anchorage was warmed by the glow of lights from a Christmas tree, after Santa Claus himself flipped the switch.
The annual holiday tree lighting ceremony, sponsored by the Anchorage Downtown Partnership, attracted a big crowd of people, who kept warm with hot cocoa and cookies.
Santa took Christmas list requests from the kids and posed for pictures, and his reindeer were greeted by children who got into the petting line.
People who came to the event were asked to bring an unwrapped toy to the help the Toys for Tots campaign.
Local businesses and organizations helped with the event. The hot cocoa was provided by the Salvation Army and Superman Movers. The cookies were courtesy of Franz Bakery, Bridge Builders and the Polynesian Association of Alaska
