ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - A tip led police to the backyard of a home where one man was caught in the act of trying to repaint a stolen motorcycle, authorities reported Tuesday.

Following a tip, Michael Murphy, 29, was arrested on the 5800-block of Rowan Street on the charges of theft as well as vehicle theft.

According to the police department, the case began when a blue and black 1996 Honda motorcycle was reported stolen back in April.

Days later, the owner once again called police, this time claiming the stolen bike had been spotted in a backyard. When officers arrived, they not only found the bike, but they found Murphy "in the process of spray painting a Honda motorcycle."

Following a records check of the Honda's vehicle identification number, it was confirmed that bike had been reported stolen. The bike also had a license plate on it belonging to another vehicle, police say.

Another man, who was in the backyard at the time but not involved in the spray painting, was not charged, police said.
