ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski was one of eight republican senators named Wednesday to the conference committee for the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

Murkowski had been hoping for the role after her work to get a provision opening ANWR to energy exploration in the bill was successful.

That provision, Title II of the act, establishes an environmentally protective oil and gas development program in a portion of the non-wilderness 1002 area.

In a release Wednesday, Murkowski said she’s grateful, “for the opportunity to represent Alaska and the nation as we bring this important bill through the last parts of the legislative process.”

“I’m very confident that we will quickly reach agreement to provide tax relief to families and job creators while strengthening the long-term energy security of our nation. With Congressman Young representing the House of Representatives on our energy provisions, Alaskans will have a very strong voice at the table to ensure this bill crosses the finish line.”

Rep. Don Young was named to the House’s side of the committee Monday.

Also representing the senate: Orrin Hatch, R-Utah; Mike Enzi, R-Wyo.; John Cornyn, R-Texas; John Thune, R-S.D.; Rob Portman, R-Ohio; Tim Scott, R-S.C.; Pat Toomey, R-Pa.
