UPDATE: Police reopen 15th Avenue after responding to vehicle accident

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) UPDATE:

4:28 P.M.

Police say a man is in custody after a vehicle accident on 15th Avenue Saturday.

According to APD's Public Information Officer, MJ Thim, officers were dispatched to reports of an armed robbery at the Carrs grocery store at Northway Mall.

Thim said officers developed descriptions of a suspect and vehicle.

The suspected vehicle was then involved in a crash in the area of 15th Avenue and Sitka Street, Thim said.

Police said the suspect and another person inside the SUV have been taken into custody.

Police say no injuries have been reported.

Anchorage Police say portions of 15th avenue have been temporarily shut down to investigate a vehicle accident.

According to a release from APD, "Westbound 15th Avenue at Lake Otis and Eastbound 15th Avenue at Medfra are shutdown."

A Channel 2 News photographer on scene says police appear to be searching a vehicle and a neighboring wooded area near Sitka street.
