ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) After several weeks of watching dogs pull sleds across Alaska, it was humans giving it a try Saturday afternoon at Kinkaid park.
The reverse sled dog race was held as a fundraiser to help the victims of recent house fires.
"All of the money will stay in Alaska and will go towards the folks affected by that fire and other folks that are affected every week," Julie Kent with Red Cross Alaska said.
Kent said the organization assists with at least one home fire each week.
Eight teams made of one to four people had to build the sleds.
The competition heated up by requiring crews to then pull the sled around a roughly 200 yard course in a March madness style tournament.
Red Cross staff said they hope to raise $10,000 with the event.
