Slick roads slow Anchorage traffic for Thursday evening commute

A car sits far off the Glenn Highway near the Muldoon on-ramp.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Updated 8:09 p.m.:
By 7:45 all lanes of traffic were moving again and a tow truck was in place to pull a vehicle out of the ditch.

Original Story:

Anchorage Police say the right lane of the inbound Glenn Highway at Muldoon is closed, as of about 6:00 Thursday evening. This has been corrected by APD who earlier said the left lane was closed.

A number of vehicles had slid into the ditch and the median in the area. Anchorage Police warned drivers to be cautious. A Channel 2 News crew saw many cars go into the ditch in a short period of time.

Glenn Highway commuters posted to a Facebook page dedicated to the highway that traffic had at times slowed to a crawl near Mirror Lake.

The Department of Transportation notes "difficult driving conditions" for state-maintained roads all across Anchorage. See DOT's road conditions map here.
