Snow in the city profits local businesses

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - After two disappointing winters for snow lovers in Anchorage, the snow is sticking around and it’s profiting local businesses.

“I love it, I love it. After these past two years, talk about a kick in the nose man. Ya, it sucked I had to lay off right at 11 guys last year, I just didn’t have the work for them,” said Samuel Dickinson with Hillside Landscaping.

By Wednesday afternoon, his business had done 34 residential jobs and had more work scheduled through 8 a.m. Thursday. “We call this pennies from heaven,” said Dickinson.

In south Anchorage, the owner of Blue & Gold Board Shop says the snow in front yards is boosting his business, “When the new snow comes then everyone gets hyped up and ready to ride and we start to see our sales increase and a lot more excitement coming through the store in general,” said Jason Borgstede.

He says when the snow stays at lower elevations its more likely beginners will buy into the sport, “I think our season would have been a lot slower here if the snow hadn’t come in and got everyone amped up to ride,” said Borgstede.
