Snow removal crews work around the clock after conditions worsen

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - A new snowfall Wednesday brought excitement to people in the snow removal business.

The past several years have been light on snow making it harder for companies like Glacier Snow Management, said Chris Gray, Glacier Snow Management manager.

"We sit around for weeks sometimes months waiting for the snow to fall," Gray said.

Gray said, It's been hard to rely on the snow.

"We spend more time trying to diversify and stay busy throughout the winter," Gray said.

The Municipality of Anchorage's snow removal crew is fully staffed and ready to get to work, said Paul Vanlandingham, Public Works Dept. manager.

The city has snow removal teams working around the clock, said Vanlandingham.

"We have received some new graders this year to replace some old ones. We have a state of the art fleet, our fleet is in good shape," said Vanlandingham.

Snow removal crews for the Municipality of Anchorage first plow areas of high traffic volume, Vanlandingham said.
