The arguments in favor of tethering sled dogs as Seavey kennel goes tetherless

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Three-time Iditarod champion Mitch Seavey has removed tethers from his Summer kennel in Seward, instead developing a system of four pens where dogs can socialize while supervised before returning to their own stalls to sleep.

Despite the system seemingly succeeding for the 2018 season, not every Iditarod musher is rushing out to change their own operations.

Watch above as prominent Iditarod mushers argue that tethering keeps order, like a teacher in a classroom, allowing the musher to embrace the dogs, unobstructed by a pen.
