A University of Alaska-Fairbanks assistant professor has developed a new app to help gardeners share tips and experiences.
Heidi Rader says the “Grow and Tell” app is similar to popular review site, Yelp.
“Same kind of idea of different people contributing ratings depending on where they live,” she said.
The app allows users, from across the country to chronicle or journal about their own experiences with different fruits and vegetables.
Crop information is also available, including what to expect taste wise from some of the food.
Rader said the app was designed to help remote areas, which might not see benefits of extension trials. “I think for all of the unique climates we have in Alaska just spread out over such a large area it's very beneficial,” she said.
“Grow and Tell” also features sections for expert advice, and upcoming events related to agriculture.
The app is free to download.
