U.S. Labor Secretary visits Alaska seafood plant, pipeline training center

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - U.S. Labor Secretary Alex Acosta is visiting Alaska this week, visiting with businesses and industry leaders across the state to discuss workforce development.

According to his Twitter feed, the secretary visited Ocean Beauty Seafood’s processing plant in Naknek Saturday evening. On Sunday he toured the Fairbanks Pipeline Training Center along with Senator Dan Sullivan. There, the two also had a roundtable discussion with construction trade leaders.

“The Fairbanks Pipeline Training Center’s skills-based training programs help prepare workers for apprenticeships in construction trades, and family-sustaining jobs in Alaska’s energy industry,” Acosta tweeted.

The secretary is scheduled to hold a press conference with Senators Sullivan and Murkowski Monday morning, following a tour of Cook Inlet Tribal Council’s employment and training offices.
