NEW YORK (KTUU) - For a few minutes, Colony High's band graced televisions across the country as they marched in the Thanksgiving Day Parade. For family and friends in Alaska, that video can be viewed above.
In addition to the band's big TV debut, a former band member waved on screen for a moment after winning her own specific national award.
Naomi Winders took this year's Bob Hope Scholarship, which is awarded each year. Macy's presents the $10,000 scholarship, honoring one outstanding band member.
Colony High School's band program will also get $10,000. Winders submitted an essay, so she knew a winner would be selected, she just didn't know it would be her.
"When they started to present the award, I was just trying to think of the best and like if I didn't win it would be all okay and when they said my name, my heart stopped and I felt like everything from that moment on was going in slow motion and I was just in complete shock," said Winders.
