Anchorage (KTUU) — A Juneau-based Allen Marine whale watching vessel carrying 113 passengers and five crew members ran aground in Favorite Channel north of Auke Bay Wednesday morning according to the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Juneau and Channel 2 viewers.

According to Petty Officer 2nd Class Kyle Gee, Coast Guard Sector Juneau crews got the call at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning that the ship, while transiting north up Favorite Channel during low tide, had run aground on a sand bar.

Coast Guard crews responded to the area to monitor the situation while passengers were being transferred to an Allen Marine sister ship.

The ship, which reportedly suffered a small crack on the port side hull, was able to leave the area under its own power with the rising tide about an hour after it became stuck.

No passengers or crew members were injured.
