SAINT MICHAEL, Alaska (KTUU) - A 19-year-old woman was found dead on a beach in the western Alaska village of Saint Michael last week, Alaska State Troopers say.
According to a dispatch posted online, the death was reported to troopers in Nome on Tuesday, July 11. The woman has been identified as Chynell Lockwood.
Troopers from Unalakleet responded to the village to investigate. They were later joined by members of the Alaska Bureau of Investigation.
AST would not immediately say whether or not the death was being considered suspicious, but said the investigation is continuing.
Lockwood’s remains were transported to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for identification and autopsy, troopers said. Her family has been notified.
Saint Michael is a community of about 400 people located on Norton Sound southwest of Unalakleet.
