APD: Homicide investigation in West Anchorage

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Anchorage Police say they are investigating a homicide in West Anchorage.

APD responded to multiple calls for shots fired around 8:15 p.m. in the 3400 block of Spenard Road. Officers found one adult man lying on the floor of a trailer, he was pronounced dead on the scene.

MJ Thim, a public affairs spokesperson with APD, writes "when officers arrived on scene, witnesses reported hearing the shots and seeing several people running in different directions."

Thim says APD received multiple reports of shots fired in the area of 36th Avenue and Arctic Blvd. Additional calls were receive by police about shots being fired in the 3400 block of Spenard Rd. Thim says it is too early to tell whether this homicide involved a suspect or suspects.

Around 9:30 p.m. Sunday evening, APD released a public information alert that there was a "large police presence in the area of Benson to Tudor and Minnesota to Arctic for investigation."

APD announced around 10:15 p.m. that the police presence in the area had cleared.
