Pridefest memorial service honors victims of infamous club attack

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) A ceremony was held at the northeast corner of an Anchorage cemetery Sunday for the victims of a deadly fire in a popular lounge in New Orleans' French Quarter in the 1970's.

In less than 20 minutes, 32 people were killed and dozens more were critically injured.

Until the Pulse nightclub shooting in 2016, it was the largest killing of Gay people in U.S. history.

Pridefest also uses the event to remember 29 Alaskans who lost their lives to AID and appeared on the original AIDS quilt.

Events continue in Anchorage all week for Pridefest, leading up to the annual parade on Saturday, June 24.
