ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Chugiak High School named Ryan Landers it's new head football coach, replacing longtime Alaska prep football coach Roger Spackman.
Landers is a former all state football player for the Mustangs, winning a state championship in 1998.
“I’m feeling excited,” said Landers over the phone Wednesday. “I’m really looking forward to this opportunity.”
It's been a waiting game for Landers, spending the past 13 seasons as an assistant coach for Chugiak.
“I’ve got deep ties out in the community, and it’s where I want to be,” said Landers.
Last season Landers was the offensive coordinator, and plans to keep most of the same coaching staff. The Mustangs finished last season in third place after losing to Bartlett in the state semifinals.
