Dog dies on team of former Yukon Quest champion during race

As most of the mushers enter Dawson City and begin their 36-hour mandatory layover at the back end of the Yukon Quest, a sad moment happened early Friday morning.

According to the Yukon Quest, veteran musher Hugh Neff informed race marshall Doug Harris that a dog on his team has died.

A necropsy was ordered and preliminary results have been released by the Yukon Quest.

According to head veterinarian Chrisina Hansen, the cause of death for Hugh Neff's five year old male dog Bobby was aspiration.

The Yukon Quest says this is consistent with the clinical history provided by Neff.

This is a developing story. We will be updating it as we get new information.
