John Baker Withdraws from Iditarod, says racing future unlikely

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - John Baker, the 2011 Iditarod champion, has withdrawn from this year's race.

With 13 Top 10 finishes in the Last Great Race, Baker tells KTUU "I've become extremely busy with Remote Solutions working on DOT projects, my company Remote Solutions has just become extremely busy. I haven't run a team all year, I haven't trained."

When asked if fans would see Baker back out on the trail again, John said, "The way things are going right now, I'll always be involved in the Iditarod and with other races throughout the state. As far as actually racing them, I'm not so sure, I'm not convinced that I'll be racing."

Baker continued, "It's not a problem for me to step away at all you know, I'm proud of what we did. I'm proud of what the race has done. I'm proud of the state of Alaska for all the pride that they had when we were fortunate enough to win, all the pride they showed within their communities to make everything a special event."
