WASILLA, AK (KTUU) What an opening day of the state hockey tournament.
West and Juneau-Douglas battled it out to the end but the Eagles got out to an early lead and never gave up, winning 6-1.
South and Colony was an instant classic, with the Wolverines coming back and tieing the game to send it to overtime. But one overtime wasn't enough, the drama built until the Knights win over the Wolverines in the third overtime 5-4.
Dimond and West Valley was also a nailbiter, with the Lynx hanging on to win over the Wolfpack 4-3.
Last but not least, Service and Wasilla. The Cougars led 3-1 going into the third period but the Warriors come back, tie it and then win it just a few minutes into the first overtime, 4-3.
So Wasilla will face West and Dimond will face Colony starting Friday at 5 p.m.
