ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The defending Large Schools champion, West, will play defending Medium Schools champion, Soldotna, in the high school football season opener.

Stars' head coach Galen Brantly confirmed Monday that the game will take place 6 p.m. Friday August 12th at Soldotna.

The Stars are currently riding an all-time record 39 game winning streak.

However, West has been known to break streaks in the past. In 2009, the Eagles broke the Stars' previous record of 29 games in the season opener, which doubled as Tim Davis' first game as West's head coach.

In 1988, West ended East's 29 game winning streak, also in a season opener.
