LOS ANGELES -- TMZ is reporting that Rihanna and Chris Brown are close to rekindling their romance, but the singers' friends are desperately trying to keep them apart.

According to TMZ, Rihanna still has feelings for Chris, and she wants to take him back.

The news comes nearly three years after Brown pleaded guilty to assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna at a pre-Grammy party in 2009.

Brown is currently serving five years of probation.

He had been ordered to stay 50 yards away from Rihanna, but last year, a judge eased the restraining order to 10 yards if they are at a music industry event.

Rihanna has said she is no longer angry at Brown and is a fan of his music.

Brown tweeted Rihanna well wishes for her 24th birthday, which was on Monday.

Rihanna retweeted the message from Brown, saying: 'Thanks! RT @chrisbrown: HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROBYN!'

The exes also recently collaborated on two remixes.

On Monday, Brown tweeted out a remixed version of his song "Turn Up the Music" that features Rihanna's vocals. Rihanna later retweeted the post.

Rihanna also tweeted a remix of her song, "Birthday Cake" that features Chris Brown.

Friends on both sides tell TMZ it's a terrible idea for them to get back together -- both personally and professionally.
