Back at the other detour, Mona and Beth are just about done. They are the only team to originally choose this task. John and Jessica go at this one but a lot of time is eaten and most teams are at the Roadblock or already checked-in at the Pit Stop.
At the roadblock, Caroline (blonde chick #1) can’t seem to pick the right surfboard. She goes to Phil numerous times. She finally picked a random surfboard with “some dude” on it. It paid off as they got 4th place. Note: her teammate knew exactly who that person was and Caroline didn’t.
Beth and Mona also had trouble finding the right surfboard until Meghan and Joey showed them who to look for and they quickly ran back to Phil.
By the time John and Jessica got to the Pit Stop, only one other team has not checked in, the rednecks. They want to use their Express Pass but when they found out it has to do with surfboards, the California surfer dude did not want to skip this task. Bad decision, they spent over an hour looking for the right surfboard. The sun has gone down when they show up to Phil with the right board.
They are eliminated.
Phil asks them why he didn’t use the express pass. John tried to save face by saying they shouldn’t look in the past about what ifs. His pride was showing bright, and it was not a pretty color.
Phil in utter confusion about their elimination looked at the camera and gave the best final words ever on the Amazing Race history, “oy vey”
It’s a shame that these two are eliminated because they were strong competitors.
