The winner for the month was Elias Patten of SkyView High in Soldotna. His winning entry was submitted by Ami McLelland. As submitted by Ami McLelland -- Elias is the leader of a group called AKTS, with his leadership they have organized a road side clean-up in our community, helped the local Senior Center with various projects and helped with our states fair in-take (registering peoples' entries to our fair so they can have it judged and show off their work). He also organized a celebration to honor the youth that are willing to come out and give him a hand. Elias volunteers at the local elementary school tutoring students in their school work.
He is currently working on getting a boys and girls club or some other youth center opened up in our community.
How the project helps or improves the community: Elias is always there to lend a hand or do the heavy lifting when the need arises. He even went so far as to recruit his little brother into the AKTS group.
How the project addresses problems: Elias has found through talking to his peers that his age group would really like to see a youth center open up in our community, so he researched what it would take to open a boys and girls club and will present it to the group at the next meeting he holds and see what the other youth say about the information found.
