A group of honorable U.S. Veterans erected a temporary flag pole to stand place at the Veterans Memorial downtown until the city installs a new one in the spring. A wind storm that swept across Southcentral Alaska cause damage all across the Anchorage area. One of the more notable pieces of damage was the Veterans' Flag Pole Memorial on the Delaney Park Strip, which fell in the late hours of the night.
