Couples Retreat'

Oh boy. Another quarreling couples movie. How many of this one have we seen? Couples retreat, four couples, four times the fun.

Jason Bateman and Kristen Bell use power points to talk their married friends into going to a couples resort.

"Couples skill building. That sounds like therapy to me. Oh see, we don't believe in therapy. That's going to be a problem."

Yeah, that would actually be working on their marriage and get in the way of their cheating on each other. They're more into hot tubs, mai tais, and jet skiing.

Stanley, spelled with a "C", has bad news.

"That is not part of your immediate program here at Eden West."

"It was in the slide show."

"That would be more appropriate at the Eden East."

"What's Eden East?"

"The singles resort."

Vince Vaughn is always funny, but he's not funny enough to keep this film afloat.

It's so shallow, it has to be tough on the lemon sharks trying to swim around. But not too tough to bother Vaughn's character Dave, who screams at the resort guru, played by Jean Reno.

One funny moment, and believe me, they are scarce and brief, is where drama queen Dave gets nipped by a shark, milks it to the limit, and gets pooh poohed by the others.

Retreat from this movie and see "The Invention of Lying" or "The Informant." We that sat through this deserve a trip to the resort in Bora Bora where this lightweight was filmed.  Send the bill to Universal Studios.
