With Easter on the way, Marcus took in the PG-rated movie “Hop.” It features an animated bunny voiced by Russell Brand, co-starring with James Marsden -- but Marcus says “Hop” is no “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?”

Don't egg-spect too much out of this one and you won't be disappointed -- well, you probably will. I mean, come on: what rabbit would rather play drums than be the Easter Bunny?

“I don't want to be the Easter Bunny.”

“Four thousand years of tradition doesn't end because one doesn't feel like doing it.”

I wanted to yell, “Is there a doctor in the house?” to help out this bunny tale that ails, but I realized there was: Dr. House, aka Hugh Laurie, is the voice of E.B.'s dad. For that matter, Marsden is a real scream as Fred, a man who has no job and still lives with Mom and Dad.

Fred hops into E.B.’s life after jumping into what else -- a rabbit hole. Fred is supposed to be funny but his yolks are far from it, and he ends up with egg on his face.

E.B. is actually cute, and if the film had been totally animated it may have worked, but nooooo. Humans like Fred ruin the charm, and aside from playing the drums, E.B. has another talent that’ll ruin Easter candy for you forever.

“See?”

“So what? You talk and you poop candy.”

Yeah, Fred's a real crack-up. Not wanting to find a job, he gets a hare-brained idea of being the Easter Bunny, since E.B. doesn't want his in-hare-ited gig.

“A human Easter Bunny. Come on, Fred -- it doesn't make sense.”

And that statement is the only thing that does make sense in this scrambled attempt at movie-making. True, some of the animated ideas were cute like an egg-shaped globe and candy egg-making machines, but there wasn't anything even close to funny although some feeble attempts were made.

I'm still searching for a category for this bunny flop. So far ones that won't work are eggs-cellent movies, Easter tweets, and chick flicks.

No need to hippity-hop to the theater for this; save the money for the Easter Bunny. Before I eggs-xit, about the only person I know who liked the film was David Hasselhoff, who's in it. I guess that would be David Hassel-hop?
