Shell Oil announced late Thursday that the 711-foot-long Xiang Yun Kou, registered to China-based Cosco Shipping, has arrived off Seward to transport the damaged drillship Noble Discoverer to Asia for repairs. These photos show the ship's capabilities, as well as its profile under load.

The Xiang Yun Kou, seen here during Dec. 6, 2010 sea trials, submerges its main deck. A series of 61 ballast tanks and two bow thrusters allow it to submerge beneath cargo, then surface to transport it.
