ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- A small wind turbine went up at Sherrod Elementary in Palmer.
The project is part of the U.S. Department of Energy's Wind for Schools program.
Energy generated by the turbine will be fed into the school and students will be able to explore such basics ideas as where energy comes from and how much it takes to power a light bulb.
"I think it's a great lesson in terms of energy in general. Energy in general is sometimes a little hard to see, you know, it's behind the scenes, you never really see diesel generation or whatever," said Jason Meyer, a research engineer.
The project is being run with help from the Alaska Center for Energy and Power at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
