ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- The largest military training exercise in Alaska starts Monday.

Northern Edge 2009 involves 9,000 U.S. active duty, National Guard and reserve soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines.

The exercise will be conducted mainly from Elmendorf Air Force Base.

They're focusing on air exercises, so people who live in the area may see and hear more flying activity.

Pilots flying small aircraft near military operations should call the Special Use Airspace information service at 1-800-758-8723.

The exercise runs through June 26.
