FAIRBANKS, Alaska -- Authorities have arrested a North Pole couple after the two bought large amounts of items used to make methamphetamine.
Zachary A. Hockersmith, 26, and Kathleen N. Woods, 39, have been charged with one count of second-degree drugs misconduct punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
The Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Enforcement was tipped off about
Hockersmith's suspicious purchases in early July and was alerted again Thursday that the couple had bought a large amount of ephedrine and 10,000 matches.
Ephedrine and the red phosphorous from matchers are used in the illegal manufacturing of meth.
According to a criminal complaint filed in court, investigators had seen the couple make similar purchases at other stores.
