ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan formally thanked three school district employees Wednesday for each saving a life during the course of their job.
Each separate incident happened within about a week of each other.
From responding to a serious car accident near Service High School, to operating an emergency defibrillator on a heart attack victim at Huffman Elementary and performing the Heimlich maneuver on a student choking on his lunch at Mears Middle School, Sullivan honored Panna Jerussi, Lisa Sutherlin and Carole Johansen.
"Our community is fortunate to have professionals like them, working with our children, and we're very grateful for their heroic acts," Sullivan said.
The school district's assistant superintendent of instruction was also on hand to offer thanks.
