ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Local detectives say they have a suspect in a string of unsolved sexual assaults.
Anchorage police say 43-year-old Richard Dorsey of Anchorage is being linked to five separate victims dating from 2001 to 2004.
Police say the investigation of Dorsey began in March when he stood trial for an unrelated sexual assault that took place in 2006.
The case officer preparing for the trial found similarities between Dorsey and the unknown suspect in several unsolved cases.
Detectives used a nationwide DNA database to tie Dorsey to cold case evidence.
"I think it's very important that we stop people who we believe have committed the crime of sexual assault, especially when it's repetitive crime in this kind of situation. One rape is bad enough, but multiple rapes, it makes a person who would commit that kind of thing very dangerous to society," said Lt. Dave Parker of the Anchorage Police Department.
Dorsey is being charged with a total of 13 criminal charges.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.
