FORT RICHARDSON, Alaska (AP) - An Alaska-based paratrooper from West Virginia has been killed in Afghanistan.

Army officials on Friday identified the soldier at 25-year-old Spec. Julian L. Berisford of Benwood, W.Va. The Army says he was killed Wednesday by a rocket propelled grenade and small arms fire while on patrol.

The infantryman joined the Army in August 2007 and was assigned to the Airborne Brigade at Fort Richardson in Anchorage a year later.
