Derelict vehicles cause problem for fishermen

Associated Press - November 8, 2009 3:54 PM ET

KODIAK, Alaska (AP) - Derelict vehicles are causing a problem for commercial fishermen in Kodiak.

The problem is that people are using city parking spaces as long-term storage of their derelict vehicles, and that is making it difficult for commercial fishermen to conduct business.

Port and Harbor Advisory Board member Daniel Miller says the problem has been going on for decades but has gotten much worse in the last couple of years.

Board member Anne Kalcic says salmon fishermen are usually out for about a week and it's hard for them to find a spot now.
