ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Alaska's senior Senator says she does not support the health care reform bill that passed in the house this weekend.
Sen. Lisa Murkowski says the bill was rushed and not given enough debate in the House.
She also does not support the public option that it includes.
Murkowski says cost containment is one of the biggest issues she has with the House bill.
“If I have to go back to Alaskans and tell them that what we have built as reform increases your premiums, increases taxes on individuals and small businesses and cuts Medicare to the tune of about half a trillion dollars, I cannot go back and tell Alaskans that that is something that I voted for or supported,” Murkowski said via phone.
Sen. Mark Begich says he is also concerned about the cost consequences.
Murkowski will be hosting a town hall meeting on health care reform Wednesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Mirror Lake Middle School in the Chugiak area.
