FAIRBANKS, Alaska -- The former owner of the North Pole refinery says it's not to blame for tainted water in local wells, and has filed to request the dismissal of a lawsuit against it.
An attorney for Williams Alaska Petroleum says the company accepts no blame for contamination of groundwater in North Pole, asking for proof that dozens of private wells are contaminated with sulfolane, a chemical used in oil refining.
Property owner James West sued in January, claiming Williams and current refinery owner Flint Hills are responsible for damage to the water supply, property values and health.
